It's Contest Time

Yes, it's finally time. Today I'm going to talk about the contest I mentioned a while back!

I'll make this short and simple (and that means you won't be getting a card to rage over today). You task, should you choose to accept it, is to make a 60-card (or more) Constructed deck that uses at least three featured cards on this blog. The official limitations are below!

  1. Your deck must be Constructed Legacy-legal.
  2. Your deck must contain at least three featured cards from unique articles on this blog. That means that the 5-land Pentafail article only counts as one, no matter how many of those cards you use. It also means it has to be a featured card, not just one mentioned during the article.
  3. The deck must use the 3+ featured cards as either the centerpiece or a critical part of the deck. So, if you copy a top-tier Legacy deck and slap in singletons of three different cards, you're doing it wrong.
  4. Your deck must be playable and able to win. It can do this in any fashion, but putting 57 Islands alongside three cards isn't going to get you anywhere.

Other than that, the sky's the limit! Feel free to include cards that are questionable other than the ones in the blog as well!

Here are the judging criterion:
  • Legality: Did the deck follow the rules presented in this article? (5 points)
  • Originality: Does the deck do something interesting or new, or was it a netdeck? (5 points)
  • Playability: Is the deck actually capable of pulling out a win? And can I pilot it without breaking out the comprehensive rulebook for every card I play? (5 points)
  • Style: This is the category for "awesome points". Do you use multiple horrific cards to great effect? Do you have any copies of Storm Crow in the deck? (5 points)
That's a total of 20 possible points. In the case of a tie, I'll proxy up the tied contenders and have a Showdown of the Ages between the contenders.

The deadline for submission of decks is 11:59pm, November 23rd. Two weeks should be plenty of time to get something brewed up.

That only leaves one thing: prizes! The following is the prize structure I will be funding from my own pocket (unless someone is willing to donate to the prize pool!):
Grand Prize: Copies of each of the featured cards in your deck sent directly to you! Exactly how many you get will depend on how expensive they are. So you could get like 40 Crazed goblins, or only a couple Sorrow's Path. The approximate value will be about the same regardless!
Second Place: A copy of one of the featured cards in your deck sent directly to you!
Third Place: You get to choose the next card featured on Spike's Worst Nightmare!

Send your submission to spikesworstnightmare@gmail.com, and include a short description of how exactly I should be playing the deck.

Happy brewing!
